Prometheus 2.8.0 is now out, following on from 2.7.0 with many fixes and improvements.
The biggest change in this release is that remote write now works via the WAL, making it more reliable and resource usage more predictable. Another improvement is that the TSDB now supports compacting overlapping blocks, which will be used by future features to enable bulk import.
One thing to watch for is that if you're specifying --storage.tsdb.retention.size then the default time retention won't apply. You can still also specify a time retention, in which case both apply.
There's other small improvements too, including that PromQL many-to-many matching errors now show the offending labels, the impact of reloading configuration on alerting has been reduced, and there's now a 10k limit on the expression browser metric auto-complete to avoid high numbers of metric names containing labels taking out browsers.
